ROH Eye of the Storm
Deer Park, New York 2/22/08

Because of a big snow storm, this show, the night before the 6th Anniversary Show, had to be altered. This is the second show in several months that has been affected due to a snowstorm. Bobby Cruise announces that ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness, Davey Richards, Roderick Strong, Brent Albright, Tyler Black & Erick Stevens could not make it. He then announces a one night tournament with the winner getting a future title shot and announces the matches.

1.) #1 Contender's Tournament - First Round - Rocky Romero vs. Bryan Danielson: ***1/4

This was the only match on here that was actually on the original card. A pretty solid contest featuring a lot of striking & ground based wrestling. Danielson advances.

2.) #1 Contender's Tournament - First Round - Kevin Steen vs. Delirious: ***1/4

These two put on a pretty hilarious contest. Delirious comedy matches are always good, and he meshes well here with Mr. Wrestling. Kevin Steen advances.

3.) #1 Contender's Tournament - First Round - El Generico vs. Austin Aries: ***1/4

These two put on the third straight match in this tournament that was proved to be pretty good. This contest especially, I thought, was the best of the first round. Aries got his nose busted during the match.

4.) #1 Contender's Tournament - First Round - Go Shiozaki vs. The Necro Butcher: **1/2

A very interesting contest. It was definitely stiff and the Hardcore elements worked, but it was just there. I feel like if Go had been in ROH a little longer then this would have been a little better.

Next we get "The Larry Sweeney Show". Sweeney brings out his guest, Shane Hagadorn. It's mostly a segment berating Bobby Dempsey, but Sweeney tells Hagadorn to give Adam Pearce his business card. This would be the set up for future events to come.

5.) #1 Contender's Tournament - Semi Finals - Bryan Danielson vs. Kevin Steen: ***1/2

This was a very good contest. Kevin Steen gets the win when Danielson taps out, perhaps trying to save himself for the next night's big title match with Nigel McGuinness.

6.) #1 Contender's Tournament - Semi Finals - El Generico vs. Go Shiozaki: ***1/2

About as good as the previous match. Both Shiozaki & Generico look good. Go advances.

7.) Four Corner Survival - Human Tornado vs. Jason Blade vs. Pelle Primeau vs. Mitch Franklin: **1/4

Human Tornado was the only really entertaining thing about this match. Ok match.

After the match, Tornado cuts a promo about bringing more women to ROH. He mentions Lacey, which brings her out, disgusted at Tornado's comments. She tries to hit him, but Tornado sleazily dodges her. Tornado only bails when Jimmy Jacobs comes out and threatens to stab him. He disses Jacobs before leaving.

Jimmy Jacobs then cuts a promo and then introduces the newest member of the Age of the Fall....Zack Gowen!

8.) The Age of the Fall (Jimmy Jacobs & Zack Gowen) vs. The Vulture Squad (Jigsaw & Ruckus): **

Eh.....don't know what to say about this. It was just there. Both members of the Vulture Squad seemingly weren't that into it.

9.) #1 Contender's Tournament - Finals - Kevin Steen vs. Go Shiozaki: ***1/2

A pretty good match and a nice way to end of the tournament. Decent use of the "Fighting Spirit". It takes two Package Piledrivers to put Go away.

After the match, Go shakes the hands of both Steen & El Generico. Steen cuts a promo to close the show.

Overall: 7.25/10

For what they had to work with, ROH managed to put out a pretty decent house show. The tournament concept was a nice replacement and set into motion the future for Kevin Steen's singles career.
