ROH Revolution Canada
Toronto, Ontario 5/7/11
1.) Claudio Castagnoli vs.
Kyle O’Reilly: ***1/4
A very good opener. Claudio is a guy who can work with almost anyone & put on a good show against the young O'Reilly.
2.) Grudge Match – Steve
Corino vs. “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett: **3/4
Steve Corino does another Redemption promo, this time wearing a Canadian Hockey Jersey. An entertaining match. A little long, but nonetheless did a good job in continuing the Corino story.
Bennett, after winning the match, lays out Corino with another Piledriver and calls out Corino's Sponsor, but no one comes out.
3.) Double Danger Scramble
Match – Rhett Titus vs. Adam Cole vs. Michael Elgin vs. Tommaso Ciampa vs.
Grizzly Redwood vs. Andy “Right Leg” Ridge: ***1/2
So the basic idea is that it's a Six-Man Mayhem Match, except you needs two pinfalls/submissions to win instead of one. I really enjoyed this one. It was a cool stipulation and made for a great match that saw Elgin, Cole, Ciampa, and Titus all look good coming out of it.
4.) The Big Bang Rematch –
Davey Richards vs. Kenny King: ***1/4
As the title suggests, this is a rematch from iPPV in Charlotte the previous year. This was good, but I've heard a lot of people say the match in Charlotte was better. Although I haven't seen that show, I can certainly agree. The match was a bit sloppy at times and the dead crowd didn't help much either.
5.) In Memory of “Sweet &
Sour” Larry Sweeney – Delirious vs. Colt Cabana: FUNNY
Former ROH Manager "Sweet 'n' Sour" Larry Sweeney (also a big name in CHIKARA and other independents) died a few days prior to this weekend's shows after apparently committing suicide. So here tonight, Colt Cabana & Delirious come out to do a tribute match. A funny match (Sweeney was involved in a lot of these kind of matches, in addition to being a good wrestler) and a very good tribute to Larry Sweeney. The pay their respects on the mic afterwords.
6.) Non-Title Match – ROH
World TV Champion Christopher Daniels vs. El Generico: ***1/2
This was a pretty good non-title encounter. Michael Elgin comes out to interfere, but Corino comes out and prevents it, allowing El Generico to pick up the win.
After the match, El Generico refuses to accept Corino's help, and he exits as the House of Truth lay out Corino.
7.) ROH World Tag Team Titles
– Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe: ***1/2
This is a rematch from the 9th Anniversary Show except this time around The Briscoes are heels. This was a pretty good match, though I'd wouldn't say it was as good as their first match. ANX ends up coming down and costing the Briscoes the match.
8.) ROH World Title – ROH
World Champion Eddie Edwards vs. Chris Hero: ****1/4
Hero is wearing Pink & Purple in honor of his close friend Larry Sweeney. An awesome title match. It was a longer match, but definitely a great encounter that shows again why ROH puts on some of the best World Title Matches out there.
Overall: 8.25/10
This was definitely the better show of the weekend. There really wasn't a bad match on here. While the Richards/King match disappointed, the rest of the show was very good. If you're a fan of Eddie Edwards and/or Chris Hero, definitely pick this up for the Main Event.
