ROH Age of Insanity Review

Delirious gets brainwashed while El Generico gets his big chance.

ROH Age of Insanity
Cleveland, Ohio 8/15/08

1.) Kevin Steen vs. Jigsaw: **1/4

Nothing much to this one. A fair opener.

2.) Rhett Titus vs. Delirious: Good Angle

This was the big moment on this show. It was not really a match, but more a long segment. Rhett Titus (who pulls a Rick Rude by having Daizee Haze's face on his tights!!) beats down Delirious who is too depressed to put up a fight. Jimmy Jacobs then comes out with Allison Wonderland, and Jacobs tells Delirious to get vengeance, which snaps Delirious out of his trance as he unloads on Titus, beating him to with an inch of his life.

Afterwords, Jimmy Jacobs announces Delirious as the newest Age of the Fall member. Daizee Haze comes out in shock & tries to talk Delirious out of it, but to no avail.

3.) Bryan Danielson vs. Kenny King: ***

Danielson was wearing a shirt to the ring, and has a farmer's tan. This was a very good contest. King looked really good in the loss.

4.) Sara Del Rey vs. Sassy Steffy: DUD (Match never takes place)

I guess this match was supposed to happen but Sweeney calls off the match & sends Steffy on her way. Sweeney has Sweet 'n' Sour Inc. with him, and calls Adam Pearce the greatest NWA Champion ever before this next match gets started...

5.) Adam Pearce (with Sweet 'n' Sour Int'l) vs. Ruckus: **

Another ok match. Nothing really interesting to this one.

6.) Age of the Fall Rules - Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black: ***1/4

Before the match Tyler offers this match to be a "scientific battle" under "Age of the Fall Rules"...whatever that means. It ended up being a decent match, but the stipulation was a little weird.

After the match Jimmy Jacobs attacks Aries who is able to fight him off until Delirious comes out to beat down Aries. The Briscoes are out for the save, leading to...

7.) The Briscoes vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious: ***1/4

I thought this was a very fun match. An entertaining brawl that went all over the building. Delirious being the newest member of the Age of the Fall certainly opens the door for some fresh match-ups.

8.) FIP World Title - Erick Stevens vs. Claudio Castagnoli: **1/4

This is a match that should have been better than it was but for some reason these guys didn't mesh well. Claudio gets DQ'ed and continues to beat down Stevens until Bryan Danielson makes the save.

9.) Brent Albright & Roderick Strong vs. Chris Hero & Go Shiozaki (with Larry Sweeney): ***

Here we got essentially the same match Strong had against Sweet 'n' Sour Inc. at New Horizons but with Albright instead of Marufuji. A decent match.

10.) ROH World Title - Nigel McGuinness vs. El Generico: ****

Although people probably figured El Generico wasn't going to win, this turned out to be a great match. A lot better than I think people were expecting. Generico especially looked really good here against the World Champion. Very good stuff.

Overall: 7.25/10

This show was really meant for serving the purpose of executing the whole Delirious angle (which was good) but the rest of it wasn't that bad either. While there may be a match not worth seeing. The rest is fine. There are some fun brawls and a World Title match that I think exceeded expectations. Good show overall.

  1. I have the Nigel Generico match on the Best of Nigel they had with SotF '10. Seems like it was the only one really worth watching which saves me the buy. ^_^
