ROH Reverse The Curse Review

Colt Cabana looks to finally breakthrough in his hometown of Chicago!

ROH Reverse The Curse
Chicago Ridge, Illinois 12/5/09

1.) Four-Corner Survival – Joey Ryan vs. Rasche Brown vs. Sami Callihan vs. Shane Hollister: **1/2

Here we have an interesting array of guys. It was a decent opener and a good four-way. Ryan getting the win was expected.

2.) Pick 6 Series – Kevin Steen (1) vs. Claudio Castagnoli: ***1/4

This match was just under 7 Minutes. Depending on who you are....you might like it or not like it. I have seen people who've not liked it but others have loved it. I'm kind of in the middle. For a 7 Minute match, this was very good, but it wasn't that good.

3.) The Young Bucks vs. The House of Truth: ***

It's Gut Check Time for the HOT as they need to pick up a win here in a rematch from Survival of the Fittest 2009. In a nice surprise, they do! A fine tag team match here.

4.) Pick 6 Series – Roderick Strong (3) vs. Kenny Omega (5): ***1/2

Now THIS should be a good match. While it wasn't a blow away match, it was still very good. Surprised we haven't seen this clash more often in ROH.

5.) Necro Butcher vs. Erick Stevens: **

Necro Butcher has been feuding with the Embassy for months at this point. They brawled for 6 minutes before a DQ ends the match. Eh......It was just there, but it served its purpose of furthering the rivalry.

6.) Pick 6 Series – Tyler Black (4) vs. Kenny King: ***1/2

These two were involved in matches against each other at Survival of the Fittest 2009 and Boiling Point (singles & six-man tag action respectively). This was another pretty good match. It had similar characteristics with the Strong/Omega match earlier in that it started slow but picked up as it went along.

7.) The Dark City Fight Club vs. The Briscoes: ***

Another decently good tag team match, though I expected this to be better. Briscoes win via Sunset Flip.

After the match, the DCFC attack Mark Briscoe but his brother Jay makes the save.

8.) ROH World Title – Steel Cage – Austin Aries vs. Colt Cabana: ***3/4

So the stipulation here is that if Colt Cabana loses here, he will never get another World Title Match in Chicago. The cage is designed to block any potential interference from Kenny King & Rhett Titus. This is also a direct rematch from the Third Anniversary Celebration: Part 1 in 2005 during the first Austin Aries World Title Reign. This was a pretty good World Title Match and solid for a Steel Cage Match. I really liked the ending here, but I didn't like the stipulation combined with that.

After the match, Cornette, who is as upset as Colt and the fans are about the finish, comes out and Cabana basically calls the ending BS. Even though he can't get another Chicago Title Match, Cornette promises to get back in the Pick 6 ASAP.

Overall: 7.25/10

While their wasn't anything overly great on here, you do have some good stuff on here. The World Title Match, Omega/Strong & Black/King were all pretty good, and most of the undercard is solid.
